Samuel Sharp - The Long Look

I never set out to become an artist. For most of my life, I've been a pharmacist, and I still am. Someone trained to notice details, to care, to pay attention. Painting grew quietly alongside that — a way of slowing down, of really looking at the world around me.

My work is rooted in everyday beauty. What begins as a sketch of a hedgerow, a sky, or a single tree often becomes something more: a record of a moment, a trace of time, a reminder to look again.

I call my approach emotional realism - painting not just what I see, but what I feel.

The landscapes in this collection are drawn from my series

"The Long Look," first presented at the Bradford Literature Festival and published in my debut art book of the same name. Each card captures a fragment of that journey - from pharmacist to painter, from the quick glance to the long look. My hope is that these images invite people to pause, to notice, and to rediscover the quiet joy of really seeing the world around them.
